Tata Power led Southern Odisha DISCOM Launches Solar Rath to Drive Rooftop Solar Adoption
Berhampur, September 2026: TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has flagged off its Solar Rath from the Office of the Collector and District Magistrate, Ganjam, as part of its continued efforts to create awareness about rooftop solar and promote the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana across Southern Odisha.
The Solar Rath was jointly flagged off by Shri Keerthi Vasan V., IAS, Collector and District Magistrate, Ganjam, and Mr. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO, TPSODL, in the presence of senior officials and dignitaries.
TPSODL has been actively facilitating rooftop solar adoption across its operational area, with around 33,000 rooftop solar systems installed across Southern Odisha. Ganjam continues to be a major contributor to the region’s solar adoption, reflecting growing consumer interest in clean and sustainable energy solutions. TPSODL’s earlier outreach has included door-to-door awareness campaigns, Gram Panchayat meetings, block-level outreach, stalls and participation in Vikas Melas.
The Solar Rath will use audio jingles, informative leaflets and other IEC materials to communicate key information about the PM Surya Ghar scheme, rooftop solar benefits, eligibility, application process, government subsidy and available financial assistance. The campaign will also facilitate consumer interaction and help address queries related to rooftop solar adoption.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO, TPSODL, said, “The Solar Rath is an important step towards taking the message of rooftop solar directly to the communities. Our focus is to make information on PM Surya Ghar simple, accessible and available to consumers at their doorstep. With the continued support of the Ganjam District Administration, we aim to reach more households, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas, and enable consumers to understand and access the benefits of rooftop solar. As the Solar Rath travels across all eight districts, we hope to build greater awareness and participation in Southern Odisha’s clean-energy transition.”
The mobile awareness initiative will travel across all eight districts of Southern Odisha—Ganjam, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Boudh and Kandhamal. It will take the rooftop solar message directly to rural and interior areas, Gram Panchayats, villages, local haats, markets and community gathering points, while also reaching urban and semi-urban locations. The initiative is designed to bring information closer to consumers and encourage more households to explore the benefits of rooftop solar.
