Baleshwar | 07 September 2026 – TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL) will host its 3rd National Lok Adalat and Settlement Camp of this calendar year on 12th September 2026 across its operational areas to facilitate swift and amicable resolution of pending cases related to unauthorized use of electricity and power theft.
The day-long settlement drive will operate from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM across Division and Sub-Division offices, as well as designated court premises in Baleshwar, Kendujhar, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Baripada electrical circles. Organised under the framework of the National Legal Services Authority, the initiative offers a transparent, accessible, and time-bound mechanism for consumers to resolve long-standing disputes. Dedicated support units—comprising enforcement officials, legal advisors, and administrative personnel—will be deployed at all designated venues to provide on-the-spot verification, documentation assistance, and final settlement processing.
Unauthorized use of electricity under Section 126 and theft of electricity under Section 135 are punishable offences under the Electricity Act, 2003, attracting financial penalties, imprisonment, disconnection of power supply and other actions as per the provisions of the Act. Beyond its individual and legal risks, illegal energy consumption directly contributes to aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses across the distribution network. This financial drain unfairly increases electricity tariffs for law-abiding consumers while overloading the grid, leading to frequent voltage fluctuations, transformer burnouts, and service disruptions that compromise overall power stability.
Highlighting the overarching objective of the initiative, Mr. Dushyant Kumar Tyagi, Chief Executive Officer of TPNODL stated, “Ensuring a resilient, transparent, and equitable power network requires a collective commitment to ethical energy consumption. Power theft not only poses severe legal hazards for the offenders but also directly undermines power network reliability and places an unfair financial burden on honest consumers.”
Through the 3rd National Lok Adalat, TPNODL strongly urges all consumers with pending enforcement disputes to capitalize on this opportunity to settle their cases, regularize their service connections, and actively partner with the utility in building a robust, strengthened power infrastructure across Northern Odisha.
