Sambalpur/Burla, August 24, 2026: In a significant move to strengthen its renewable energy footprint, TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has accelerated its green energy transition by installing rooftop solar PV plants across 114 office buildings in Western Odisha.
As of August 17, 2026, the rooftop solar installations have collectively generated 8,92,537 units (kWh) of clean electricity, contributing to significant energy savings. The initiative has also helped avoid an estimated 732 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, reinforcing the environmental benefits of decentralised solar energy. The initiative enables TPWODL to meet a part of its operational energy requirements through renewable energy, while reducing dependence on conventional power sources.
The initiative reflects TPWODL’s commitment to integrating sustainability into its own operations and leading by example in Odisha’s clean energy transition. By adopting renewable energy across its office infrastructure, the company is demonstrating the potential of rooftop solar as a sustainable and cost-effective energy solution.

Building on this progress, TPWODL plans to further strengthen its renewable energy footprint by installing an additional 100 kW of rooftop solar capacity across its office infrastructure during the coming financial year. The expansion will leverage applicable incentives and support available under schemes of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
Beyond its own operations, TPWODL is also facilitating rooftop solar adoption among domestic consumers in Western Odisha. Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, eligible domestic consumers can avail government financial assistance for installing rooftop solar systems, helping reduce the upfront cost and enabling long-term savings on electricity bills.
To further make rooftop solar accessible to households, TPWODL has introduced its 1 kW ULA Model, under which eligible households can install a rooftop solar system by paying only ₹1,875. TPWODL facilitates the complete installation process and provides a five-year warranty on equipment along with a 25-year performance warranty on solar panels, offering consumers long-term reliability and hassle-free operation.
