Training Programme on “Use of Forensic Techniques and Technologies for Investigating Sexual Crime against Women and Children”

Bhubaneswar : A three day Training Programme for 150 field officers in the rank of Inspector (IIC)and Dy.S.P., (SDPO)on “Use of Forensic Techniques and Technologies for Investigating Sexual Crime against Women and Children” is being organized by Crime Against Women & Children Wing,Crime Branch, Odisha, Bhubaneswar in collaboration with UNICEF, Odisha from 27.08.2023 to 29.08.2023 in 3 phase at Police Bhawan, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar.

Fifty (50) Police Officers in the rank of Inspector andDy.Supdt.of Police from Cuttack Rural, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore, Rourkela, Baragarh, Bolangir, Boudh, Angul, Kalahandi, Koraput, GRP Cuttack, UPD Bhubaneswar and UPD Cuttack Police Districts are attending the 1stPhase on 27.08.2023.  In the 2nd phase and 3rd phase (100) officers of the same rank from the remaining Police Districts of Odisha would be attending the training on28.08.2023 and 29.08.2023.

As crime against Women & Children is increasing rapidly, the prime objective of thistraining is to equip Police Officers with Knowledge and Skill in use of Forensic Techniques and Technologies for investigating of such cases. Further, an increasing trend of crime against Women and Children have been noticed. This calls for Specialized Training and Utilization of Forensic Techniques and Technologies in Investigating of such type of Offences. This training programme will be covering issues like Technical Skills, Digital Forensics, Legal Issues, Collaboration and Information Sharing with Other agencies, Victim Support and Empathy etc.

The training programme was today inaugurated by Shri. SunilKumar Bansal, IPS, DGP, Odisha at Police Bhawan, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar. As the Chief Guest of the programme he expressed his happiness on the response of Officers attending the training. He advised them to be fully attentive while listening to the resource persons who have got vast and pragmatic knowledge to resolve critical crimes. DGP said that the Officers attending these trainings, in due course, can lead use of Forensic Sciencerapidly in their respective Districts.

Sh. ShefeenAhamed K, IPS, IGP Crime Branch, Odisha, Cuttack attended the programme as Chief Speaker and enlightened the Participants on use of Forensic Science in detection of crime in general and Crime against Women and Children in particular.

Shri Manna Biswas, Child Protection Specialist, UNICEF, Odishaattending the programme on behalf of UNICEF and briefed how the Criminals are shifting from the traditional crimes raising a major challenge for the investigators.

Sri RashmikantaMishra, OPS (SAG), S.P., CID, CB. Odisha, Cuttackextended his vote ofthanks stressed upon the role of District Police in the combat against crime relating to Women and Children and role of Forensic Science in successful investigation of such cases.

Sri Keshav Kumar, IPS (Retd.), Ex-DGP and Director, Anti-Corruption, Bureau, Gujrat and Sri HemanthSai Reddy, Sr. Vigilance Manager, Cardila Pharmaceuticals attended the programme as Resource Person and shared their Practical knowledge and Experience on use of Forensic Techniques and Technologies for Investigating Sexual Crime against Women and Children.

Smt. ImanKalyanNayak,OPS,DSP, CAW & CW, Bhubaneswar acted as chief coordinator of the training programme.
