Representatives from across the company’s plants presented 24 technical papers across AI, Sustainability, Refining and Smelting technologies at the leading global aluminium forum
Jharsuguda, Odisha;September 21, 2026:Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, showcased its research, innovation and technical capabilities at the 14th International Bauxite, Alumina & Aluminium Conference and Exhibition (IBAAS 2026) held in Jharsuguda. The company presented 24 technical papers across key areas including artificial intelligence, digitalisation, alumina refining, aluminium smelting, sustainability, alloy development, resource recovery and operational excellence. The contributions highlighted the company’s focus on advancing manufacturing excellence, resource efficiency and next-generation technologies across the aluminium value chain.
The 14th International Bauxite, Alumina & Aluminium Conference and Exhibition (IBAAS 2026) served as a key platform for stakeholders from across the aluminium ecosystem, including industry leaders, researchers, technology providers, policymakers and academic institutions, to exchange insights on the sector’s future trajectory. Held under the theme ‘Global Aluminium Outlook 2030: Secure Resources, Efficient Energy and Value from Wastes,’ the conference explored strategies for strengthening resource security, improving energy efficiency and unlocking greater value through circular economy approaches.
Rajesh Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, joined the inaugural session as Chief Guest, where he shared perspectives on the evolving opportunities for the aluminium sector and the importance of building future-ready value chains. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “As demand accelerates across electric mobility, renewable energy, infrastructure and advanced manufacturing, the focus must shift towards building resilient, technology-led and value-added ecosystems. At Vedanta Aluminium, we are strengthening every link of the value chain, from resources and refining to digital operations, circularity and downstream manufacturing, to help position India as a leading hub for the aluminium economy of the future.”
Further contributing to the conference discourse, Vibhav Upadhyay, Chief Operating Officer, Smelter, Vedanta Aluminium, Jharsuguda,delivered a thought leadership address titled‘Aluminium Value Chain and its Applications: Enabling Lightweight Solutions, Energy Efficiency and Advancing ESG Goals.’His address highlighted aluminium’s expanding role in enabling lightweight, energy-efficient and sustainable solutions across sectors, while underscoring the importance of technology, innovation and responsible production in shaping the industry’s future.
The company’s strong technical contributions were further recognised with three Best Paper Awards across key categories. In the Aluminium Smelting category, Carbon Anode Quality Improvement was honoured for presenting innovative measures to enhance anode quality and improve smelter performance. In the Refining category, Bauxite Residue to Resource: A Circular Economy Partnership between Vedanta & Fertilizer Industries received top recognition for demonstrating how cross-sector collaboration can transform bauxite residue into a valuable resource, advancing circular economy principles and resource efficiency. Further strengthening Vedanta Aluminium’s presence at the forum, Improving Age-Hardening Response of AA6201 Rod: Role of Mg/Si Optimization and STRONTIUM-Assisted Intermetallic Transformation was also recognised with a Best Paper Award, highlighting the company’s focus on product innovation and metallurgical excellence through advanced materials research.
Vedanta Aluminium’s participation at IBAAS 2026 reflects the company’s continued focus on using research, technology and collaboration to address evolving industry challenges and opportunities. As India’s largest aluminium producer, the company contributes more than half of the country’s aluminium output and achieved a record production of approximately 2.46 million tonnes in FY26.
