Vedanta Aluminium Showcases Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idols Crafted by Subhalaxmi Cooperative Women at Jharsuguda
Subhalaxmi women artisans craft eco-friendly clay idols, linking tradition with sustainable livelihoods
Jharsuguda, Odisha; 17th September 2026:As Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations unfold across Odisha, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, is marking the occasion with eco-friendly clay idols handcrafted by women artisans from the Subhalaxmi Cooperative, the company’s flagship women empowerment initiative. Displayed at the company’s Jharsuguda operations, the idols celebrate Odisha’s rich clay-craft tradition while generating livelihood opportunities for rural women. Created under VedMurtika, Vedanta Aluminium’s terracotta cluster development initiative, the idols reflect how traditional craftsmanship can be transformed into sustainable sources of income for local communities. Today, VedMurtika supports over 30 artisans across Jharsuguda through skill enhancement, design development and market linkages, helping preserve traditional clay artistry while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Dalimba Rana, a VedMurtika artisan and member of the Subhalaxmi Cooperative from Kolabira Kumbhar Pada, Jharsuguda, said, “The support provided through VedMurtika has helped us strengthen both our skills and livelihoods. Through pottery training, improved machinery, regular capacity-building programmes and guidance from expert trainers, we have refined our craftsmanship and enhanced the quality of our products. The appreciation received for our eco-friendly Ganesh idols has encouraged us to preserve and carry forward this traditional art form for future generations.”
The celebrations also brought together employees and their families at Vedanta Township for Ganesh Puja, aarti and cultural programmes. The inclusion of eco-friendly products crafted by Subhalaxmi women added a meaningful community dimension to the festivities, reflecting Vedanta Aluminium’s commitment to community-driven development and women’s entrepreneurship. Through its social impact initiatives across Odisha, the company has positively impacted more than 7 lakh lives, including empowering over 12,000 women through livelihood and skilling initiatives and extending educational support to over 24,000 students. Through celebrations such as Ganesh Chaturthi, Vedanta Aluminium continues to create opportunities for employees, families and local communities to come together in the spirit of togetherness while supporting local artisans and strengthening community bonds.
