While Odisha Faces a Grave Flood Situation, the Chief Minister is Busy Attending a Feast in New Delhi: BJD

Dry food has not yet reached most flood-affected areas

Bhubaneswar, 31/07/2026: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has alleged that while more than 20 districts of Odisha are reeling under severe flood conditions, the Chief Minister and senior BJP leaders are busy attending a feast in New Delhi.

Addressing a press conference at Sankha Bhawan today, former Minister and Senior Vice President of the party Shri Devi Prasad Mishra and former Minister and Vice President Shri Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak stated that the Government has completely failed in providing relief and assistance to the flood-affected people.

Shri Devi Prasad Mishra said that the flood situation across the State has become extremely serious. During the previous Government, a robust disaster management system had been established, because of which Odisha earned appreciation across the country and around the world for its handling of natural disasters. In the current floods, seven people have lost their lives, 1,380 domestic animals have died, and thousands of hectares of agricultural land have been submerged. At a time when the State is facing such a grave situation, the Chief Minister and senior BJP leaders are occupied with a feast in New Delhi. Naveen Patnaik’s policy that “every life is precious” has become irrelevant for the present BJP Government. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi speaks of “zero casualty,” but it is not being reflected in action.

Shri Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said that more than 20 districts of the State have been affected by floods. At this critical juncture, the State Government’s Water Resources Department is in a state of deep slumber. On the other hand, the Chief Minister is hosting BJP Members of Parliament at Hotel Ashok in New Delhi. It is like Nero playing the fiddle while Rome was burning. While the people of Odisha are struggling desperately to save themselves from the devastation caused by the floods, the Chief Minister is engrossed in a feast in New Delhi. Whenever Odisha faces a natural calamity, people naturally remember Naveen Patnaik. His policy that every life is precious and his commitment to achieving zero casualties come to people’s minds. However, despite the worsening flood situation, the affected people are still waiting for relief. In most places, dry food has not yet reached the affected population. Although there is a provision to provide cooked food in the flood-hit areas, the arrangement has not yet commenced, the BJD alleged.
