World Environment Day observed by Baphlimali Mines of Utkal Alumina

Kashipur 7th June: Utkal Alumina, a unit of Hindalco Industries under the Aditya Birla Group, observed World Environment Day at its Baphlimali Mines Division, located in Kashipur Block of Rayagada district.
To mark the occasion, a series of awareness programmes focusing on environmental protection and plastic-free living based on the theme “beat plastic pollution” were conducted over the past two days. A special message from Satish Pai, Director – Director, highlighting the importance of environmental conservation, was shared with all employees and stakeholders.
On the first day, awareness sessions were held near the Baphlimali Mines security gate, where security personnel were sensitized on the harmful effects of plastic use, the importance of environmental safety, and the need for tree plantation. In a similar initiative at the mine workshop, employees were educated on waste management practices and the impact of improper disposal on the environment.


A strong appeal was made to promote clean and green surroundings while collectively pledging to minimize plastic waste. Additionally, sanitation workers at the mine’s administrative building were briefed on the importance of hygiene, cleanliness, and sustainable practices.
On the second day, a mass awareness rally was organized inside the mining campus to spread the message of environmental protection and plastic-free living. The rally commenced from the administrative office and culminated at the mine stadium.


Antaryami Sahu, RFO – Kashipur, and Mr. Vijay Chauhan, Head – Mines, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the adverse impacts of plastic pollution and encouraging a complete shift away from single-use plastics.
The event concluded with a mass environmental pledge followed by a tree plantation drive, reinforcing Utkal Alumina’s commitment to sustainability and ecological responsibility.
