Baripada, Dated: 12-10-2025: On the occasion of the International Day of the Girl Child, the District Social Welfare Office, Mayurbhanj, organized a district-level program on 11 October 2025 at the Stadium Conference Hall, Baripada.
The event aimed to eliminate gender inequality in society and to encourage girls and women to create their own identity in every field of life. Like every year, this year too, the day was observed with great enthusiasm through various activities highlighting the importance of empowering girls.
The program was inaugurated with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Mrs. Niharika Mohanty, District Social Welfare Officer (Chief Guest); Mrs. Mamatamayi Biswal, District Child Protection Officer (Guest of Honour); and Mrs. Sasmita Mohanty, District Protection and Program Officer.
All the dignitaries present emphasized how girls can move forward, establish their independent identity, and how society and families can help eliminate gender-based discrimination by promoting girls’ education and empowerment.
A total of 120 girls from 26 blocks of the district participated in the event. Various competitions such as songs, dance, and speeches were organized for the girls, and meritorious students were felicitated.
On this occasion, Mayurbhanj’s pride, rugby and football player Parbati Hansda, was honoured for her achievements. Through storytelling, art displays, and personal success stories, the participating girls shared their dreams, goals, and perspectives on girl empowerment.
At the conclusion of the event, Mrs. Sasmita Mohanty, District Protection and Program Officer of the District Social Welfare Office, delivered the vote of thanks.
CDPOs (Child Development Project Officers) from various blocks and members of the Women Empowerment Centre were present and extended their support in conducting the program successfully.
