Makar Sankranti Celebrated at Sisir Saras: The Sky Filled with Colours of Kites

Bhubaneswar, 14.01.2026: The capital’s skyline has come alive with vibrant colours as hundreds of kites filled the sky during the celebrations of the sacred festival of Makar Sankranti at Sisir Saras 2026. Adding to the festive spirit, ORMAS and Subhadra Shakti organized an attractive Kite Show, which spread colours of hope, joy and tradition across the skies of Bhubaneswar.The two-day Kite Show, held on January 14 and 15, has emerged as one of the key attractions of the fair. Participants showcased their creativity through beautifully designed kites, delighting visitors. Inspired by traditional motifs, birds, animals and folk art, and blended with a touch of modernity, the kites reflected the rich cultural heritage of Odisha.Keeping public safety in mind, ORMAS ensured the use of safe kite threads, giving top priority to the protection of birds, pedestrians and the general public. These thoughtful measures have been widely appreciated by visitors. The kite exhibition is not merely a form of entertainment; it stands as a joyful celebration of Odisha’s core culture, age-old traditions and community harmony. Visitors thoroughly enjoyed the colourful spectacle in the sky.In the first series of displays, 100 kites were flown within one square metre on paper, 75 bird-shaped kites made of 1.2 metre ripstop nylon, 30 parafoil design kites ranging from 4 to 20 metres, a 16-metre diameter ring kite, and letter kites.

A special attraction of the exhibition was the 26 square metre parafoil pilot kite bearing the mascot name “Sisir Saras of ORMAS.”On the fifth day of the fair, ORMAS also organized a kite-making workshop. Students from various schools in the capital participated and learned how to make kites. Around 100 students from Kendriya Vidyalaya and Saraswati Shishu Bidya Mandir took part in the workshop and received training from the organization “Kite Man.” Through this initiative, students revived the traditional practice of kite flying during Makar Sankranti at Sisir Saras.On the fourth day, business turnover at Sisir Saras 2026 crossed ₹95 lakh. Considering the cumulative sales of the previous days, total trade has exceeded ₹4 crore. While visitors enjoyed the Kite Show during the day, the evening cultural programme featured performances by Ollywood singer Kuldeep Pattnaik and Odia rapper Black Baa, whose energetic show successfully captivated the youth.
