Burla, October 29, 2026: TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has restored electricity supply to 762,049 consumers affected by Cyclone ‘Arnab’ across Balangir, Sonepur, Nuapada and Kalahandi districts. As of 3 PM on October 29, the company had restored approximately 91% of the 838,405 affected consumers, with 410 field personals working round the clock to restore the remaining connections by the end of the day.

The cyclone and associated adverse weather conditions caused power supply disruptions across the four districts from October 28, affecting several sections of the electricity distribution network. TPWODL responded by mobilising field teams, assessing infrastructure damage and undertaking repair work to restore electricity as quickly and safely as possible.

According to the operational update for the period from midnight on October 28 to 3 PM on October 29, 110 of the 118 affected 33 kV feeders had been restored. Similarly, 879 of the 995 affected 11 kV feeders had been restored, while 14 of the 19 affected 33/11 kV substations had been brought back into service.

The cyclone also affected 27,830 distribution transformers, of which 27,185 had been restored by the reporting time. The reported physical damage to the network included 11 damaged poles, 34 conductor snaps and approximately 430 metres of low-tension (LT) cable damage. Restoration teams are working to repair damaged infrastructure and reconnect consumers while following necessary safety precautions.

TPWODL’s control rooms have been monitoring the situation and coordinating restoration activities with field teams, local administration and emergency services. Equipped with safety gear and essential repair materials, the teams continue to work on the remaining affected sections of the network.

With restoration efforts continuing at full pace, TPWODL is targeting 100% restoration by the end of October 29. The company remains focused on completing the remaining work safely and efficiently, ensuring that damaged electrical infrastructure is properly checked before being brought back into service.

TPWODL also urges residents to stay away from fallen power lines, damaged poles and exposed electrical equipment, and to report such hazards through the company’s official consumer service channels. Residents should not attempt to handle or repair damaged electrical installations themselves.

TPWODL remains committed to restoring normalcy and ensuring safe and reliable electricity supply to affected consumers across its operational area.
