Sundargarh, July 30: A joint raid by Talsara Police and the Excise Department has led to the seizure of illegal firearms and the destruction of a large quantity of illicit country-made Mahua liquor at Runipani village under Talsara police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
According to a police press brief, acting on credible intelligence, officials raided the house of Falindra Singh (37), son of late Jagan Singh, on July 29. During the operation, the accused allegedly fled into a nearby forest before police could apprehend him.
During the search, officials destroyed around two quintals of fermented Mahua wash (poch), which was allegedly being used for the illegal distillation of country liquor. Police also recovered two country-made pistols, two magazines, and three live rounds of ammunition from the house.
IIC of Talsara Police Station, Jasobanti Bag, seized the firearms and ammunition, following which a case was registered under Talsara PS Case No. 225 dated July 29, 2026, under Section 25(1-B)(a) of the Arms Act.
Police said that, under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Police, Sundargarh, a special team later arrested the accused. He is being produced before the court.
The investigation is continuing to ascertain the accused’s previous criminal activities and the source of the illegal firearms. The case is being investigated by SI Bijaya Kumar Dehury of Talsara Police Station.
