Biju Mahila Janata Dal Held Peaceful Protest Against Incomplete Mega Piped Water Supply Project in Mahanga
- Demonstration Was Held in Front of Mahanga Block Office Demanding Completion of Water Supply Works Before Political Inauguration
Bhubaneswar, 21/05/2026:The Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD), Mahanga Block, organized a peaceful protest demonstration on 21 May 2026 at 4:00 PM in front of the Mahanga Block Office to protest against the inauguration of the Mega Piped Water Supply Project despite several works remaining incomplete.
Addressing the issue, BMJD leaders stated that the Mega Piped Water Supply Project had originally been sanctioned in the year 2020 by former Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik with an estimated cost of Rs. 200 crore for providing piped drinking water facilities to 44 Gram Panchayats under the Mahanga Assembly Constituency.
However, Biju Mahila Janata Dal alleged that despite the passage of nearly two years under the present administration, the project had not been completed in a time bound manner and many villages were yet to receive water supply connections at their doorsteps. The BMJD further expressed disappointment that the project had been formally inaugurated by the local MLA and the Hon’ble Panchayati Raj Minister without ensuring completion of the pending works. The party leaders questioned the motive behind inaugurating an unfinished project while the common people continued to suffer from lack of adequate drinking water facilities.
In response to public dissatisfaction, the Biju Mahila Janata Dal, Mahanga Block, under the leadership of President Susmita Das, organized the democratic and peaceful protest demanding immediate completion of the project and proper implementation of the piped water supply scheme for all beneficiaries.
Around1000 BJD workers, women members and local leaders participated in the programme. The organization assured the administration that the protest would be conducted peacefully while maintaining full respect for democratic values and public order.
