• Six GPs to receive improved supply
• Stronger network across hilly areas
• Improved reliability and voltage profile

Brahmapur, September, 2026: Reliable and quality electricity supply is set to reach more households and communities in the hilly areas of Kandhamal with the development of a new power sub-station at Gressingia in G. Udayagiri Block. The project will strengthen the local electricity network and bring greater reliability and continuity of supply to around four thousand consumers across six Gram Panchayats. It is expected to reduce power interruptions, improve voltage levels and support the growing electricity needs of communities in the region.

The 33/11 kV, 2×5 MVA Power Sub-Station (PSS) Gressingia constructed by TPSODL under ODSSP IV scheme of Govt of Odisha, will cater to consumers in Gressingia, Badimunda, Pikaradi, Ratingia, Petapanga and Gadaguda Gram Panchayats. With additional transformation capacity closer to the areas being served, the project will strengthen the local distribution network and improve the quality and stability of electricity supply.

The project assumes particular significance in Kandhamal, a district known for its hilly terrain, forests, valleys and dispersed settlements. The geographical characteristics of the region often make infrastructure development and network strengthening more challenging. In this context, a stronger local power infrastructure can play an important role in improving service reliability for communities located across the area’s undulating landscape.

The improved network is expected to provide consumers with a more stable power supply and reduce the impact of interruptions and voltage fluctuations. Reliable electricity will also support households, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, local businesses and other community establishments that depend on uninterrupted power for their day-to-day activities.

Kandhamal’s economy is closely associated with agriculture, horticulture, forest-based activities and small-scale livelihoods. Better electricity infrastructure can provide an important foundation for local economic activities while supporting improved access to essential services in rural and remote communities.

Mr. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO, said, “Reliable electricity is an important enabler of development, particularly for communities living across geographically challenging areas. The Gressingia Power Sub-Station will strengthen the local distribution network and help provide more reliable and quality power supply to around four thousand consumers. We remain committed to strengthening our infrastructure and ensuring that consumers across Southern Odisha receive dependable electricity services.”

The Gressingia PSS is part of the continued effort to strengthen the distribution network across Kandhamal and improve the resilience of electricity infrastructure in areas with challenging terrain. The project will contribute to creating a stronger and more responsive network capable of meeting the present and future electricity requirements of the communities it serves.
