Prayatn Sanstha Celebrates World Environment Day

Rayagada– Prayatn Sanstha, in collaboration with the SBI Foundation under the SBI Gram Seva Project, celebrated World Environment Day in Rayagada district, Odisha. The programme brought together local leaders, community members and project stakeholders to promote environmental awareness and strengthen collective action towards climate protection and sustainable development.
The event was graced by Smt. Padmavati Tadangi, Zilla Parishad Member; Shri. Sina Jilakara, Nayeb Sarpanch of Pipalaguda Gram Panchayat; Shri Amitab Jilakara, Ward Member; and Smt. Mariya Sirika, Sarpanch of Karubai Gram Panchayat, along with members of the Prayatn Sanstha team.
The celebration commenced with an environmental awareness rally, during which participants carried messages promoting tree plantation, environmental conservation, waste management and climate action. The rally was followed by a plantation drive aimed at increasing green cover and encouraging community ownership of environmental protection efforts.
Addressing the gathering, Smt. Padmavati Tadangi highlighted the importance of protecting the environment and mitigating the effects of climate change. She encouraged villagers to plant and nurture trees, conserve natural resources and adopt environmentally responsible practices for the well-being of future generations.
Other dignitaries appreciated the environmental initiatives being implemented under the SBI Gram Seva Project and acknowledged the positive impact of these interventions on village development and environmental sustainability. They commended the efforts undertaken to improve sanitation, promote renewable energy and strengthen climate-resilient community infrastructure.
Under the project, 50 solar street lights have been installed across the project villages, promoting the use of clean energy while improving safety and accessibility. Four farm ponds have been constructed to support water conservation and climate-resilient agriculture. The SBI Swachchta Saathi vehicle continues to provide waste collection services, helping maintain cleanliness across villages. Additionally, dustbins have been installed and compost pits constructed to encourage proper waste management.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 220 community members, including village leaders, women, youth and school children. Their active involvement reflected a growing awareness of environmental issues and a strong commitment towards building cleaner, greener and more sustainable villages.
The World Environment Day celebration served as an important platform for raising awareness on environmental protection and reinforcing the shared commitment of Prayatn Sanstha and SBI Foundation towards sustainable rural development and climate action.
