TPWODL gears up for Cyclone ‘Arnab’, mobilises 8,658 personnel and emergency resources across Western Odisha
Additionally, 973 project workers on standby; 24×7 control rooms and emergency restoration equipment kept ready
Burla, 26 October 2026: Ahead of Cyclone ‘Arnab’, TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has activated its Business Continuity and Disaster Management Plan to safeguard electrical infrastructure, protect consumers and ensure the earliest possible restoration of power supply in the event of disruptions across its operational areas.
With adverse weather potentially affecting electricity networks, TPWODL has mobilised 8,658 personnel, including 7,675 annual maintenance contract (AMC) personnel and 983 company employees. An additional 973 skilled and unskilled project workers are on standby for emergency restoration. Specialised restoration teams have been positioned in Bargarh, Balangir, Kalahandi and Nuapada districts, identified as potentially affected areas based on forecasts from the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.
To support swift restoration, TPWODL has kept essential equipment and materials ready, including eight mobile distribution substations, 17 diesel generator (DG) sets, 626 manual and motorised tree pruners, and 324 vehicles. Its emergency inventory also includes 621 distribution transformers, 10 power transformers, 10,950 poles, and substantial stocks of conductors, cables and other electrical materials to repair damaged infrastructure and restore supply.
A 24×7 Power System Control Centre (PSCC) at Burla will continuously monitor network operations and coordinate responses. Area-level control centres at Balangir and Kalahandi, along with activated divisional control rooms, will support field teams and facilitate coordination during adverse weather. Satellite phones have also been provided to key operational officials to maintain communication during emergencies.

TPWODL has strengthened its consumer communication and complaint-handling arrangements to provide assistance during outages. Consumers can report electricity-related emergencies through the 24×7 toll-free helplines 1912 and 1800-2028. Complaints can also be registered through the company’s website, My Tata Power App, WhatsApp, IVRS and missed-call services at 97777 74511. Outage-related updates will also be shared through the company’s social media platform, X.
“As Cyclone Arnab approaches, our priority is to protect public safety and minimise power disruptions through advance planning and a coordinated response. Our teams, equipment and essential materials are on standby to support prompt restoration wherever outages occur,” said Mr. Parveen Verma, CEO, TPWODL.
TPWODL urges consumers to avoid touching electrical poles, wires or equipment during rain and flooding, refrain from handling electrical appliances with wet hands or while standing in water, and stay indoors and away from trees and temporary structures during strong winds. Parents should also keep children away from open drains and waterlogged areas.
The company remains focused on public safety, network resilience and the earliest possible restoration of electricity supply throughout the cyclone response.
